To save a web page as a PDF, press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac), choose Save as PDF as the destination and click Save. If the page prints badly or you only have the link, paste the address into a free URL to PDF converter and download the finished PDF in a few seconds.
Below are the exact steps for every major browser and phone, when the link method is the better choice, and how to fix the usual problems: text cut off at the edge, missing images and cookie banners printed over the content.
Which method should you use?
The right method depends on what you have and what the page looks like. Use this table to pick one.
| Situation | Best method | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You are reading the page now | Browser print dialog | Already open, works offline once loaded |
| You only have a link | URL to PDF tool | No need to open and scroll the page |
| Long page with images that load as you scroll | URL to PDF tool | It scrolls the page first so every image loads |
| Page behind a login (bank, email, intranet) | Browser print dialog | Only your own logged in browser can see it |
| You saved the page as an HTML file | HTML to PDF | Converts the saved file or pasted code |
A common trap: "Save page as" in the browser menu saves HTML files, not a PDF. You want the print dialog or a converter.
How to save a web page as a PDF in Chrome and Edge
Chrome and Edge both have a built in PDF printer, so no extension is needed.
- Open the page and wait until it has fully loaded.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Cmd+P on a Mac (or open the three dot menu and choose Print).
- In Chrome, set Destination to Save as PDF. In Edge, set Printer to Save as PDF.
- Open More settings to choose the paper size, margins, scale and whether to include Background graphics.
- Click Save, pick a folder and name the file.
Tip: switch on Background graphics if colored boxes, charts or icons are missing from the preview.
How to save a web page as a PDF in Firefox and Safari
Firefox and Safari use the same idea with slightly different labels.
Firefox: press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac), set Destination to Save to PDF and click Save. On Windows you can also pick Microsoft Print to PDF.
Safari on Mac: choose File then Export as PDF for one long page without page breaks, or press Cmd+P, open the PDF menu at the bottom left and choose Save as PDF for normal printed pages. Safari's Reader view (the page icon in the address bar) removes ads and menus first, which gives a much cleaner PDF of an article.
How to save a web page as a PDF on iPhone and Android
Phones can do it too, without any app.
iPhone and iPad (Safari):
- Open the page and tap the Share button.
- Tap Options at the top and choose PDF, or scroll down and tap Print.
- In the print preview, pinch outward on the first page to open the PDF, then tap Share and Save to Files.
You can also take a screenshot, tap Full Page and save it as a PDF to Files.
Android (Chrome):
- Tap the three dot menu, then Share and Print.
- Set the printer at the top to Save as PDF.
- Tap the round PDF button and choose where to save it.
On a phone, the link method is often easier: copy the address, paste it into the URL to PDF tool and you get the desktop layout of the page instead of the narrow mobile one.
How to convert a link to PDF without opening the page
If you have a URL, a converter saves you the scrolling and the print settings. On WoowPDF it works like this:
- Open URL to PDF.
- Paste the full address, for example https://example.com/article.
- Choose the paper size (A4, Letter, Legal or A3) and portrait or landscape.
- Leave desktop layout on to get the page as it looks on a computer, and keep backgrounds on if colors matter.
- Click convert and download the PDF.
Behind the scenes the tool loads the page in a real browser at desktop width, scrolls through it so images that load on scroll appear, then prints it to PDF. It only opens public addresses: links to private or local network addresses are refused, and pages behind a login show the login screen instead of your account, so use your own browser for those. A page has about a minute to load before the conversion stops.
Fixing common problems when saving a web page as a PDF
Most bad PDFs come from a handful of causes, and each has a quick fix.
Text is cut off at the right edge. The page is wider than the paper. In the print dialog lower the Scale (try 80 percent), switch to Landscape, or use a converter that shrinks the desktop layout to fit the page.
Images are blank. Many sites load images only when you scroll to them. Scroll to the bottom and back up before printing, or use the URL to PDF tool, which does that scroll for you.
A cookie banner or chat bubble covers the text. Accept or close the banner before printing. For articles, Reader view (Safari, Firefox, Edge) removes most overlays.
The PDF has dozens of pages of menus and ads. Print only the pages you need with Pages set to a custom range, or remove pages afterwards with Split PDF.
The file is too big to email. Long pages with many photos can reach several megabytes. Run the result through Compress PDF before sending it.
Print to PDF or a URL to PDF tool: which is better?
Both produce a real PDF with selectable text, so choose by convenience. The print dialog is best for pages you are already viewing and anything behind a login. A URL to PDF converter is faster when you have a list of links, when you are on a phone and want the desktop version, or when lazy loading images keep coming out blank. Saving several pages? Convert each link, then combine them into one document with Merge PDF.

Frequently asked questions
How do I save a web page as a PDF in Chrome?
Press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac), set Destination to Save as PDF and click Save. Open More settings first if you want to change the paper size, margins or include background graphics.
Can I convert a link to a PDF without opening it?
Yes. Paste the address into a URL to PDF tool such as the free one on WoowPDF. It loads the page in a browser on the server, scrolls it so images appear and returns a PDF you can download.
Why are images missing when I save a web page as a PDF?
Most sites load images only when you scroll to them, so they are not there yet when you print. Scroll to the bottom and back before printing, or use a converter that scrolls the page for you.
How do I save a web page as a PDF on my iPhone?
In Safari tap Share, then Options and choose PDF, or tap Print and pinch out on the preview. Then tap Share and Save to Files. A full page screenshot can also be saved as a PDF.
Can I save a page that needs a login as a PDF?
Use your own browser's print dialog for that. Online converters open the link without your login, so they would only capture the sign in page.
