Split PDF Files Online

Split PDF breaks one PDF into several smaller documents. You can turn every page into its own file, cut the document at the page ranges you type, or split it into equal chunks of a few pages each. The same tool also works as a page extractor: pick the pages you need and save them together as one new PDF. Everything runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded.

How to split a PDF

1. Add your PDF. Drop the file onto the upload area or click to choose it (up to 100 MB).
2. Choose how to split. Pick one of the three modes described below and fill in the ranges or the number of pages per file if needed.
3. Click Split PDF. The new files are created in seconds. Download them one by one, or all together as a single ZIP archive.

Three ways to split

• Every page into its own PDF: a 12-page document becomes 12 single-page files, named with the original file name plus the page number, for example report-pages-7.pdf.
• By page ranges: type the ranges separated by commas, such as 1-3, 4-6, 7-. Each range becomes one file, and a range ending with a dash runs to the last page. Single pages work too: 1, 5, 9-12 gives three files.
• Every few pages: enter the number of pages per file, for example 2 to separate double-sided scans into two-page sets, or 10 to cut a long export into manageable parts. The last file simply holds whatever pages are left.

In range mode you can also switch on Put all selected pages in one PDF. Instead of one file per range, you get a single document with just the pages you listed, ideal for pulling a chapter or a signed page out of a larger file.

When splitting a PDF helps

• Sharing only what matters: send the two relevant pages of a 60-page contract rather than the whole document.
• Upload limits: many portals accept only small files. Splitting into chunks keeps each part under the limit.
• Scanned batches: a scanner that captured ten invoices in one PDF can be split back into one file per invoice with ranges.
• Study and work: separate the chapters of an e-book or course pack so each one can be read, annotated or printed on its own.

Tips

• Pages are copied, not re-rendered, so every split file keeps the original text, fonts and image quality.
• If you only want to throw away a few pages and keep the rest in one file, Delete PDF Pages is quicker, with visual thumbnails.
