How to put a watermark on a PDF
- Add one or more PDF files (up to 100 MB each).
- Choose Text or Image. Type up to 120 characters, or pick a preset: CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY, SAMPLE, APPROVED or DO NOT COPY. For a logo, add a PNG, JPG or WebP file.

How to add a logo to a PDF as a watermark
Switch the watermark type to Image and add your logo. A transparent PNG looks best because only the logo itself is printed, not a white box around it. Set the size as a percentage of the page width, lower the opacity to 10% to 20% for a subtle background mark, or keep it at 100% and place it in a corner for a letterhead style logo. The same image is placed on every selected page.
Single stamp or tiled watermark?
A single stamp is the classic look for DRAFT or APPROVED: it marks the status without hiding much of the content. Put it in a corner for a small COPY or company name, or in the center for a large diagonal stamp. The tiled layout repeats the text or logo in rows over the whole page, staggered like brickwork. That is the better choice for CONFIDENTIAL files and for previews you send to clients, because a tiled watermark cannot be cropped out of a screenshot.
Dynamic text: page numbers, date and file name
Add {page}, {pages}, {date} or {file} to the text and each page prints its own values. "CONFIDENTIAL, page {page} of {pages}" becomes "CONFIDENTIAL, page 3 of 12", and "Copy for ACME, {date}" stamps today's date, which shows when and for whom a copy was made.
Over or behind the content?
Over is the default and is always visible. Behind places the watermark under the page content, so text stays fully readable, which suits letters and contracts with a light logo. On scanned pages or pages with a white background box, a watermark behind the content is covered, so use Over there.
Tips for a watermark that protects without getting in the way
- Keep opacity between 15% and 30% so the text underneath stays readable.
- A 45° angle crosses lines of text instead of covering one line completely.
- Gray or the document's own accent color looks calmer than bright red on contracts.
- Skip the first page when the cover should stay clean, or mark only odd or even pages for printed booklets.
- Watermark a copy for sharing and keep your clean original.
When to watermark a PDF
