How to convert a URL to PDF

Need a copy of an article, a booking page, a recipe or a piece of documentation that you can read offline, print or archive? URL to PDF turns any public web page into a PDF file. Paste the link, choose the paper size and press Convert: our server opens the page in a real browser, waits for it to load, scrolls through it so lazy images appear, and prints it to a PDF that keeps the text, pictures, colors and clickable links. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark.

How to convert a URL to PDF

  1. Copy the link. Open the page in your browser and copy the address from the address bar.
  2. Paste it here. Paste the address into the box. If you leave out https://, it is added for you.
  3. Pick the layout. Choose A4, Letter, Legal or A3, portrait or landscape, desktop width or fit to paper, and whether to print background colors.
  4. Convert and download. Press Convert to PDF. After a few seconds you can rename the file and download it.

Which options to choose

Desktop width lays the page out as it appears on a laptop screen, 1280 pixels wide, and shrinks it to fit the paper, so menus, columns and tables look the way you know them. Fit to paper lets the page reflow to the width of the sheet, which gives larger text and often a single column, handy for long articles you want to read on a tablet. Turn off background printing to save ink on dark websites, and use landscape for wide tables, charts and dashboards.

What it cannot convert

The converter visits the page as a first time visitor without your cookies, so pages behind a login, a paywall or a shopping cart show what a logged out visitor sees. Cookie banners also appear the way a new visitor sees them. For private pages, open the page yourself and use the Print dialog of your browser with Save as PDF. For security, addresses on private networks, on localhost or on your own computer are refused, and every image, frame or script the page loads is checked the same way. Very long pages are printed across many PDF pages, and extremely heavy pages may reach the time or size limit.

What happens to the page and your link

The address you paste is sent to our server over an encrypted connection. The server loads the page in an isolated browser with a fresh, empty profile, prints the PDF, returns it to you and deletes everything. We do not keep the address, the page or the PDF, and nothing is shared with third parties. The website you convert sees an ordinary visit from our server, not from your device.

Tips

  • Have an HTML file instead of a link? Use HTML to PDF.
  • Need a smaller file for email? Run the result through Compress PDF.
  • Only want part of the page? Split the PDF or delete the pages you do not need.
  • Want to mark up the saved article? Open it in Edit PDF to add notes and highlights.
  • Saving several pages about one topic? Convert each link, then merge the PDFs into one file.

Frequently asked questions

Is this URL to PDF converter free?

Yes. Converting a link to PDF is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. A fair use limit of about 20 pages every 10 minutes keeps the service fast for everyone.

Can I convert a page that needs a login?

No. The page is opened as a new visitor without your cookies, so pages behind a login or a paywall show what a logged out visitor sees. For those, open the page yourself and use your browser's Print dialog with Save as PDF.

Do links still work in the PDF?

Yes. Links stay clickable in the PDF, and the headings of the page are turned into PDF bookmarks so you can jump through long articles.

Why does the PDF look a little different from my screen?

A web page is designed for a screen of any width, while a PDF has fixed pages. Choose Desktop width to keep the layout you know, shrunk to the paper, or Fit to paper for larger text that reflows to the page.

Which addresses are refused?

Only public http and https pages are converted. Addresses on private networks, on localhost or on your own computer are refused for security, and so is every image or script a page tries to load from such an address.

Do you keep the pages I convert?

No. Our server loads the page in an isolated browser, prints the PDF, sends it back to you and deletes it. The address, the page and the PDF are not stored or shared.
