To extract pages from a PDF, open Extract PDF Pages, drop in the file, click the page thumbnails you want (or type a range such as 1-3, 7), and save them as a new PDF. You can also save one PDF per page as a ZIP. It is free, and the file never leaves your browser, so a contract or bank statement stays on your device.
Below: the exact steps, how page ranges work, three built in methods for Chrome, Windows and Mac, and how extracting differs from splitting or deleting pages.
How to extract pages from a PDF online (step by step)
- Open Extract PDF Pages.
- Drop your PDF on the page or click to choose it. A thumbnail appears for every page.
- Click the pages you want. Selected pages are highlighted.
- Or type them in the Pages box, for example
1-3, 7, 10-. The box and the thumbnails stay in sync. - Use the quick buttons for All, None, Odd or Even pages if that is faster.
- Under Output, pick One PDF (all chosen pages in one file) or One PDF per page (a ZIP of single page files).
- Click Extract pages, rename the file if you like, and download.
The original PDF is never changed. The tool builds a new file from copies of the chosen pages.
How to type page ranges
The Pages box uses the same simple rules most print dialogs use:
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
5 |
Page 5 only |
1-3 |
Pages 1, 2 and 3 |
1-3, 7 |
Pages 1 to 3 and page 7 |
10- |
Page 10 to the last page |
2, 4, 6 |
Pages 2, 4 and 6 |
Commas separate pages, a dash makes a range, and a dash at the end means "to the end". Order of typing does not matter; pages come out in document order.
Will extracted pages lose quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, without recompression. Text stays sharp and selectable, links keep working, and images keep their resolution. That is why the new file is often a little larger per page than you might expect: nothing was squeezed. If it must be smaller for an upload, run it through Compress PDF afterwards.
3 built in ways to extract PDF pages without any tool
If you cannot install anything, your computer can already do a basic extract.
Chrome or Edge (any computer)
- Open the PDF in the browser.
- Press Ctrl+P (or Cmd+P on a Mac).
- Set the printer to Save as PDF (Chrome) or Microsoft Print to PDF (Edge).
- Under Pages, choose Custom and type the range, for example
4-6. - Click Save.
The catch: printing to PDF re-draws the pages, which can lose links, bookmarks and form fields, and sometimes turns text into slightly different fonts.
Windows with any PDF reader
Open the file, press Ctrl+P, choose Microsoft Print to PDF, enter the page range and print. Same caveats as above.
Mac with Preview
- Open the PDF in Preview and show the sidebar with View, Thumbnails.
- Select the pages (hold Cmd to pick several).
- Drag the selected thumbnails onto the desktop. Preview creates a new PDF with only those pages.
Preview keeps the pages as they are, so it is the best built in option, but only on a Mac.
| Method | Keeps links and quality | Works on | Upload |
|---|---|---|---|
| WoowPDF Extract PDF Pages | Yes | Any browser, phone or computer | No |
| Chrome or Edge print to PDF | Not always | Any computer | No |
| Mac Preview drag | Yes | Mac only | No |
| Adobe Acrobat Extract | Yes | Acrobat Pro (paid) | Depends |
Extract, split or delete: which one do you need?
The three tools sound alike but solve different jobs:
- Extract when you need a few pages out of a long document: the signed page of a contract, one invoice from a statement, two chapters of a report.
- Split when you want to cut the whole document into parts, such as every page or every 5 pages. Use Split PDF.
- Delete when you want to keep the document but remove a few pages, such as blank backs or an old annex. Use Delete PDF Pages.
To reorder or rotate pages while you are at it, Organize PDF lets you drag them into place.
Common uses for extracting PDF pages
- Sending one invoice or statement page to an accountant without sharing the rest of your account history.
- Sharing a single chapter of a long report or textbook with a colleague.
- Submitting only the signed pages of a contract to a portal.
- Pulling a certificate out of a bundle of scanned documents for an application.
- Making single page files for a document management system that wants one page per record.
Is it private?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib, the same open source libraries many PDF apps use. Your PDF is read and rebuilt on your own device and is never sent to a server, which matters most for the bank statements and contracts people usually extract from.
Ready? Open Extract PDF Pages, click the pages you need and save them in seconds.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract a single page from a PDF?
Open WoowPDF Extract PDF Pages, drop the file, click the one page you need (or type its number) and click Extract pages. You get a new one page PDF and the original stays unchanged.
How do I extract pages from a PDF without Adobe?
Use a free browser tool such as WoowPDF Extract PDF Pages, print to PDF with a custom page range in Chrome or Edge, or drag the page thumbnails out of Preview on a Mac.
Can I save every page of a PDF as a separate file?
Yes. Select all pages and choose One PDF per page under Output. Each page becomes its own PDF and they download together as a ZIP.
Does extracting pages reduce quality?
No. The pages are copied without recompression, so text stays sharp and selectable and links still work. Printing to PDF, by contrast, can drop links and form fields.
Is my PDF uploaded when I extract pages?
No. WoowPDF does the extraction in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
