How to sign a PDF online

Printing a document just to sign it, scanning it and emailing it back takes time you do not need to spend. With WoowPDF's Sign PDF tool you can sign contracts, forms, invoices, permission slips and letters directly in your browser. Draw your signature, type it in a handwriting style or upload a picture of it, then place it anywhere on the page together with your initials, the date and check marks. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account to create and no watermark on your file.

How to sign a PDF in four steps

  1. Open your PDF. Drop the document onto the page or click Choose file. All pages appear with thumbnails so you can jump to the signature line.
  2. Create your signature. Click Signature and draw it with your mouse, finger or stylus, type your name and choose a handwriting style, or upload a photo or scan of your signature.
  3. Place it. Click on the page where the signature belongs. Drag it into position and pull a corner to resize it; proportions are kept automatically. Add Initials, Text, Date or Check mark the same way.
  4. Save. Click Save signed PDF, rename the file if you like and download it.

Three ways to create a signature

Draw gives the most natural result: the pad records your pen movement smoothly, even on phones and tablets, and the signature is saved as sharp vector lines that stay crisp when printed or zoomed. Type turns your name into a signature in one of several handwriting styles. Upload uses a photo or scan of your real signature; WoowPDF removes the white paper background and trims the edges so only the ink appears on the document. Choose black, blue, green or red ink.

Initials, dates and text

Many contracts need initials on every page. Create your initials once, place them, then click All pages to copy them to the same spot on every page. Use Date to insert today's date in the local, long or ISO format, and Text to add your printed name, job title, a place or a short note. Check marks are useful for tick boxes. Every item can be moved, resized, duplicated or deleted, and fine-tuned with the arrow keys.

Private and secure

Your document and your signature never leave your device: WoowPDF opens, signs and saves the PDF entirely in your browser. Your saved signatures are only kept while the page is open, so nobody else can reuse them later. That makes the tool suitable for employment contracts, rental agreements, medical forms and other personal documents.

Electronic, not certificate-based

This tool creates a simple electronic signature, which is a visual mark of your signature on the page. It is accepted for many everyday agreements, such as quotes, delivery notes, school forms and many contracts. Some official processes require an advanced or qualified digital signature backed by a certificate; if that applies to your document, use the signing service the other party requests.

Tips for the best result

  • Zoom in on the signature line before placing your signature, so it sits exactly on the line.
  • Need to fill in form fields before signing? Use the PDF form filler, then sign the result. To make the answers permanent, flatten the form.
  • Want to change existing text or add images? Use Edit PDF.
  • Signing several documents? Merge them first and sign them in one go, then protect the signed PDF with a password before sending it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I sign a PDF online?

Open the PDF, click Signature and create your signature by drawing, typing or uploading it. Then click on the page where it belongs, adjust its size and position, and click Save signed PDF to download the signed document.

Is it free and do I need an account?

Signing is completely free, with no watermark, no page limit and no account or email address required.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. Your PDF and your signature stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers, so contracts and personal documents remain private.

Is an electronic signature legally valid?

In many countries, including under the EU's eIDAS regulation and the US ESIGN Act, a simple electronic signature like this is accepted for most everyday agreements. Some documents require an advanced or qualified signature with a certificate; check the requirements for your document.

Is this a digital signature with a certificate?

No. WoowPDF adds an electronic signature: a visual image or drawing of your signature placed on the page. It does not add a cryptographic certificate that proves the file has not been changed since signing.

Can I upload a photo of my handwritten signature?

Yes. Choose Upload and select a PNG or JPG. The white or light background is removed automatically and the image is trimmed, so only your ink appears on the document.

Can I add my initials to every page?

Yes. Create your initials, place them once, then click All pages to copy them to the same position on every page. The same works for a signature, text or date.

Can I add the date and my printed name?

Yes. Use Date to insert today's date in the format you choose, and Text for your printed name, title or any other note. Resize them to match the document.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. You can draw your signature with your finger, place it with a tap and move it by dragging, in modern mobile browsers.

Can I sign a PDF form or a protected PDF?

You can sign any PDF. To type into form fields, use our PDF form filler first. If the file is password protected, remove the password with Remove PDF Password (you need to know it) before signing.
