How to increase the size of a PDF
Most PDF tools make files smaller, but sometimes you need the opposite. Application portals for exams, jobs, scholarships and government services often set a minimum file size, for example "PDF between 100 KB and 300 KB". A neat one page document saved from Word or a phone can be only 30 or 40 KB and gets rejected. Increase PDF Size raises the file to the size you choose without changing what is on the pages.
How to increase PDF size
- Add your PDF. Drop it on the page or click to choose it. You can add several files at once.
- Pick the minimum size. Choose 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, or type any size in KB.
- Increase. Press Increase PDF size. Each file is brought up to just above the target.
- Check and download. The result shows the size before and after and confirms the target was reached.
How it works
The tool stores a block of invisible padding data inside the PDF in a private data area that the PDF standard reserves for applications (the document's page piece dictionary). PDF readers ignore it, so the pages look, print and search exactly as before. The padding is random data, so the size holds even if a portal compresses uploads. It does not re-render pages or lower quality, and the original text stays selectable.
| Your PDF | Target | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 40 KB | 100 KB | Just over 100 KB, same pages |
| 150 KB | 200 KB | Just over 200 KB, same pages |
| 350 KB | 300 KB | Kept as it is, already big enough |
Sizes are counted with 1 KB = 1024 bytes, the larger reading, so a file made for "at least 100 KB" passes on portals that count either way.
Good to know
- Check the maximum too. If a portal says "100 KB to 300 KB", choose a target inside that range, for example 150 KB.
- A digitally signed PDF should not be changed at all. Any edit, even invisible padding, breaks the signature.
- Password protected? Unlock it first with Remove PDF Password.
- File too big instead? Compress the PDF to 200 KB or use Compress PDF with any target size.
- Need to add pages, such as a scanned certificate? Use Merge PDF first, then check the size again.
- Have photos instead of a PDF? JPG to PDF creates the PDF.
Typical situations
A one page cover letter, a signed declaration, a caste or income certificate saved as a clean PDF, or a short form exported from a website are all small by nature. If a portal refuses them with a message like "file size must be at least 100 KB", increase the size here and upload again. You do not need to rescan the paper at a higher resolution or add blank pages, both of which change the document.
Private and free
Everything happens in your browser. The PDF is not uploaded, stored or shared, there is no sign-up and no watermark is added.

Frequently asked questions
Why would I need to increase a PDF's size?
Some upload portals for exams, jobs, visas and government services reject files below a minimum size, for example 100 KB, to filter out empty or broken uploads. A short, clean PDF can fall under that limit even though nothing is wrong with it.
Does increasing the size change my document?
No. The tool adds invisible padding data inside the PDF, stored as private application data that viewers ignore. Pages, text, images, fonts and layout are not touched, and the file opens and prints exactly as before.
How do I increase a PDF to 100 KB?
Drop the PDF on this page, choose 100 KB and press Increase PDF size. The result shows the new size and whether it reached the target. Download it and upload it to the portal.
Is the file uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened and saved again by your own browser. Nothing is sent to our servers, so certificates and ID documents stay on your device.
What if my PDF is already larger than the target?
Then nothing needs to be done and you get the original file back unchanged, with a note telling you its current size.
Can I use it on a digitally signed or password protected PDF?
A protected PDF has to be unlocked first with Remove PDF Password. Do not use the tool on a digitally signed PDF: any change to the file, even invisible padding, makes the signature show as invalid.
