How to remove blank pages from a PDF

Scanned a stack of single sided letters on a duplex scanner? Exported a report that ends with three empty pages? Remove Blank Pages finds the empty pages in a PDF for you and deletes them in one go. Every page is checked automatically, the blank ones are highlighted in a preview grid, and you decide what goes before the new PDF is saved. It runs entirely in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.

How to remove blank pages from a PDF

  1. Open the PDF. Drop the file onto the page or click Choose file. Each page is checked as it appears.
  2. Review the result. Pages marked Will be removed are the blank ones. The counter shows how many were found.
  3. Adjust if needed. Move the sensitivity slider, or click a page to keep it or remove it yourself.
  4. Save. Press Remove blank pages and download the cleaned PDF.

How blank pages are detected

Each page is rendered as a small image and the tool measures how much of it is ink. It first finds the paper tone, the most common shade on the page, so a grey or cream scan is not mistaken for content. The outer edge, where scanners leave shadows and punch holes, is ignored, and rendering the page small smooths away isolated specks of dust. What remains is compared with the sensitivity limit: below it the page counts as blank. The default of 0.1% catches truly empty pages, scanner backs and pages that carry nothing but a page number; raise it to also catch pages with a short header line, or lower it to keep page numbers.

Where blank pages come from

Most empty pages come from duplex scanning of single sided paper, from separator sheets used in batch scanning, from Word or Excel exports with an extra page break, and from forms that leave the back of each sheet empty. Removing them makes a file shorter to read, cheaper to print, faster to send and easier to search, and it keeps the page count of a court filing or an application correct.

Your file stays on your device

The PDF is opened, analysed and rewritten by your own browser. Nothing is sent to our servers, nothing is stored, and the tool keeps working even if your connection drops after the page has loaded. That makes it safe for contracts, medical records, bank statements and other private scans.

Tips

  • Want to choose the pages yourself instead? Use Delete PDF Pages.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool decide a page is blank?

Each page is rendered small and the share of ink is measured: pixels clearly darker or more colorful than the paper. The paper tone itself, the outer edge where scanners leave shadows, and isolated specks are ignored. Pages under the sensitivity limit are marked blank.

Will it delete a page that only has a page number?

Usually yes: at the default sensitivity a page with nothing but a page number counts as blank. Move the slider down if you want to keep such pages, and check the preview: every page marked for removal is shown before anything is deleted.

Can I keep a page the tool marked as blank?

Yes. Click any page in the grid to switch it between kept and removed. Your choices are applied exactly when you save.

Does it work on scanned documents?

Yes, it is designed for scans. Duplex scanning often adds the empty backs of single sided sheets, and those are detected even when the paper is grey or slightly speckled.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Pages are analysed and removed in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib. The file never leaves your device.

Does removing pages lower the quality?

No. The pages you keep are copied as they are, without re-compression, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution.
