Digital PDF or scan?

If you can select text in your PDF, it is a digital PDF and converts directly. If the pages are pictures of paper, there is no text to convert yet. Run them through PDF OCR first, then convert the searchable result to Word or Excel.

How your files are handled

Most of these converters run in your browser, so the PDF never leaves your device: Excel, images, text, OCR, HTML and Markdown. PDF to Word, PDF to PowerPoint, PDF to PDF/A and PDF to ODG need a full office or PDF engine and run on our server. Those files travel over an encrypted connection and are deleted right after processing.

Tips for the best result

• Remove the password from protected files first with Remove PDF Password, using the password you know.
• Only need a few pages in Excel? Cut them out with Split PDF first, because the whole document is converted.
• Choose PNG for sharp text and graphics, JPG for photos, and 300 DPI when you plan to print the images.
• Keep your original PDF when you create a PDF/A copy, because the conversion is one way and removes features such as scripts.

What is the difference between PDF to Images and Extract Images from PDF?

PDF to Images turns each whole page into one picture, with text and graphics flattened together. Extract Images from PDF saves only the photos, logos and graphics embedded in the file, at the pixel size they have inside the PDF.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word or Excel?

Yes, in two steps. Make the scan searchable with PDF OCR, then convert the result. Without OCR, a scan contains only pictures and there is no text to put into paragraphs or cells.

Which PDF/A version should I choose?

PDF/A-2b is selected by default and is the right choice in most cases. If an archive, court or office asks for a specific version, pick that one.

Do I need to install any software?
