How to put several PDF pages on one sheet

Printing a long PDF one page per sheet wastes paper, ink and space in your bag. WoowPDF's pages per sheet tool, also known as N-up printing, arranges 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16 pages of your document on every sheet and gives you a new PDF that prints exactly that way on any printer. It is ideal for lecture handouts, slide decks, study notes, proofs and reference copies. The work happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no sign-up or watermark.

How to print several pages on one sheet

  1. Add your PDF. Drop one or more files onto the page or click Choose files.
  2. Choose how many pages per sheet. Pick 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16. The layout preview updates instantly and tells you how many sheets you will print.
  3. Set the paper and order. Select A4, Letter, A3, Legal or the original page size, leave orientation on automatic or force portrait or landscape, and choose the reading order.
  4. Create the sheets. Click Create sheets, rename the file if you like, and download your new PDF.

A layout that fits your pages

With automatic orientation, WoowPDF tries every sheet orientation and grid for the number you chose and keeps the one that prints your pages the largest. Two portrait pages go side by side on a landscape sheet, four pages fill a portrait sheet in a 2 × 2 grid, and slides in 16:9 format are arranged so they waste as little paper as possible. Each page is scaled proportionally and centred in its cell, so nothing is stretched or cut off.

Page order for every language

Choose whether pages run across and then down (like reading a book in English), down and then across (like newspaper columns), or in either pattern from right to left for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu documents. The numbered preview shows exactly where each page will land.

Margins, spacing and borders

Open the advanced options to set the outer sheet margin and the gap between pages. Leave some margin if your printer cannot print to the edge; reduce it to make pages larger. Turn on borders to draw a thin frame around every page, which makes handouts easier to cut or read. You can also restrict the layout to a page range, such as only the chapters you need.

Sharp, searchable output

Pages are placed as vector content, not as screenshots, so text stays crisp when printed or zoomed and remains selectable and searchable. Rotated pages keep the orientation you see in your PDF reader, and an optional setting turns landscape pages sideways in portrait cells to print them bigger.

Common uses

Teachers print slide decks as 6-per-page handouts that students can annotate. Students shrink lecture notes to 2 or 4 pages per sheet to revise from a slim stack of paper. Designers and editors print 9 or 16 pages per sheet to check the flow of a brochure or book at a glance. Offices print reference copies of long reports, contracts and manuals at half the paper, and anyone sharing a PDF on a tablet can create a compact overview of a document before reading it in full.

Tips for the best result

  • Use 2 pages per sheet for text you want to read comfortably, 4 for handouts and 9 or 16 for slide overviews.
  • If pages come out small, lower the margins or enable Rotate pages to fill the cells.
  • Want only part of the document? Split the PDF or delete pages first, or use a page range.
  • Combine several files into one with Merge PDF before arranging them, and add page numbers so readers can find their place.
  • Printing in black and white? Convert the PDF to grayscale to save color ink, or compress it for faster printing.

Frequently asked questions

What does "pages per sheet" mean?

It places several pages of your PDF side by side on one sheet of paper, scaled down so they fit. Printing 4 pages per sheet, for example, turns a 40-page document into 10 sheets. It is also called N-up printing.

How many pages can I put on one sheet?

You can choose 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16 pages per sheet. Two or four pages keep text easy to read; 9 or 16 are best for slide overviews, thumbnails and proofing layouts.

Which paper sizes are supported?

A4, US Letter, A3 and US Legal, or the same size as the original PDF pages. With automatic orientation, WoowPDF picks portrait or landscape sheets so each page is printed as large as possible.

Can I change the order of the pages on the sheet?

Yes. Pages can run across and then down, down and then across, or in the same two patterns from right to left, which suits Arabic, Hebrew and Urdu documents.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The new layout is created entirely in your browser with no upload, so confidential documents never leave your device.

Will the text still be sharp and searchable?

Yes. Pages are placed as vector content, not as pictures, so text stays crisp at any zoom level and can still be selected and searched.

Can I add borders or space between the pages?

Yes. Turn on page borders to draw a thin frame around each page, and use the advanced options to set the outer sheet margin and the space between pages.

What happens with landscape and rotated pages?

Rotated pages are shown upright just as they appear in your PDF viewer. Enable "Rotate pages to fill the cells" to turn landscape pages sideways in portrait cells (and the reverse) so they print larger.

Can I use only some of the pages?

Yes. Open the advanced options and enter a page range such as 1-10, 15. Only those pages are placed on the sheets.

Can I process several PDFs at once?

Yes. Add multiple files and each one is converted with the same settings. You can download them one by one or together as a ZIP file.
