How to Rotate a PDF and Save It
Rotate PDF fixes pages that appear sideways or upside down. It is the common problem with scanned documents, phone scans and PDFs that mix portrait and landscape pages. You see a thumbnail of every page, turn the whole document with one click or only the pages that need it, and save a corrected copy. The rotation is saved permanently in the file, so it displays correctly in every PDF reader, on any device, and when printed.
How to rotate PDF pages
- Add your PDF. Drop the file onto the upload area or click to choose it (up to 100 MB). Thumbnails of all pages appear after a moment.
- Rotate all pages with the Rotate all left or Rotate all right buttons: ideal when the entire document was scanned the wrong way.
- Rotate single pages with the small left and right arrows under each thumbnail. Click twice to turn a page upside down (180°).
- Click Rotate PDF and download the corrected file, saved as your file name plus “-rotated”.
The thumbnails turn as you click, so you can check every page before saving. Each click rotates a page by 90°, and rotations add up, so a page can be set to 90°, 180° or 270° from its original position. You can also drag thumbnails to a new position if a page is in the wrong place.
Change PDF orientation: portrait to landscape and back
To change the orientation of a PDF, rotate the page by 90°: a portrait page becomes landscape, and the content turns with it, which is exactly what a sideways scan needs. Use Rotate all left or right for the whole file, or the arrows under one thumbnail to fix a single page. The new orientation is stored in the file, so it stays fixed in Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Edge, macOS Preview and on phones.
How to rotate a single page in a PDF
To rotate only one page, leave Rotate all alone and use the arrows under that page's thumbnail: one click turns it 90° left or right, two clicks turn it upside down. Every other page keeps its orientation, so a report with one sideways chart or a scan with one page fed in the wrong way is fixed without touching the rest. Rotate several individual pages in the same session, then save once.
Rotate the view or rotate the file?
Adobe Acrobat Reader (View, Rotate View), Chrome and Edge (the rotate button in the PDF toolbar) and macOS Preview can all turn a page on screen. In most readers that only changes the view: the next time you open the file, or when someone else opens it, the page is sideways again. Rotate PDF saves the new orientation inside the file, so it is fixed for everyone, in every reader and when printed.
Common situations
- Scanned documents: a feeder scanner or phone app saved some pages sideways. Rotate just those pages instead of scanning again.
- Mixed orientations: a report with wide tables or charts on landscape pages that open sideways in viewers.
- Upside-down pages: double-sided scans where every second page is flipped, rotate them by 180°.
- Before sharing or printing: send a document that reads correctly without the recipient having to turn their screen.
Good to know
- No quality loss. Rotation changes the page’s orientation setting; text, images and links are not re-rendered or recompressed.
- Text stays selectable and searchable after rotating.
- Need more changes at once? Organize PDF also lets you delete and duplicate pages alongside rotating and reordering.
- If a scan has white margins or a skewed edge after rotating, trim it with Crop PDF.
- Photographed paper pages? Scan to PDF creates a clean PDF from your photos first.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before they can be rotated.

Frequently asked questions
How do I rotate a PDF and save it?
Add your PDF, rotate all pages or only single pages with the arrows under the thumbnails, then click Rotate PDF. The downloaded file keeps the new orientation permanently.
Can I rotate only one page of a PDF?
Yes. Use the small rotate buttons under that page's thumbnail; the other pages stay as they are.
How do I rotate one page in a PDF and not the others?
Click the arrow under that page's thumbnail instead of Rotate all. Only that page turns, then click Rotate PDF to save. You can turn several single pages before saving.
Why does my PDF go back to sideways after I rotate it in my reader?
Most readers only rotate the view and do not save it in the file. Rotate the pages here and download the new copy, and the orientation stays fixed everywhere.
How do I turn a page upside down?
Click a page's rotate button twice to turn it by 180 degrees.
Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality?
No. Only the page orientation is changed, so text, images and links remain exactly as they were.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Rotating happens entirely in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
Will the rotation stay when I open the PDF elsewhere?
Yes. The rotation is saved in the file, so it shows correctly in any PDF reader and when printed.
Is Rotate PDF free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark, for files up to 100 MB.
How do I change the orientation of a PDF?
Add the PDF, rotate the pages that face the wrong way by 90° with the arrows, or all pages at once, then click Rotate PDF. The new orientation is saved in the downloaded file.
